REGIONAL DIRECTOR

Dr. Linda Henry Gilliam was initiated into Alpha Epsilon at Virginia State University in 1970. She continued her membership at the graduate level in Hampton with Gamma Upsilon Omega and Gamma Lambda Omega in Lawrenceville, VA. Currently, she is a charter member of Pi Rho Omega in Richmond and a Life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is the 17th Mid-Atlantic regional director.

Dr. Gilliam has been an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority on the local, regional and international levels. As a member of Pi Rho Omega, she served as president, secretary, chaplain, Ivy Leaf reporter, twice as parliamentarian and chaired various committees, including Standards, Membership (leading 2 Membership Intake Processes), Leadership Development, Constitution and Bylaws, the Mentoring Program, Beautillion and 20th Anniversary. Under her leadership as president, the chapter won five (5) Mid-Atlantic Regional awards, including President of the Year. Dr. Gilliam won two awards as Mid-Atlantic Soror of the Year in 2000 and in 2001.

On the regional level, Dr. Gilliam has presented numerous workshops, served on the Mid-Atlantic Anti-Hazing Team and won election to the International Nominating Committee, where she was elected twice, serving from 1994-1998. She was appointed by former International President Norma White to serve on the Membership Committee from 1998-2002.

On the international level, she not only served on committees, Dr. Gilliam presented workshops at International Conferences. In 2006, she was appointed by the Centennial International President Barbara McKinzie to serve on the Heritage Committee. At that task, she conducted evaluations, investigations and served as team leader for an investigation and a reevaluation. At the Centennial Conference in Washington, DC, she served as co-chairman of the Tellers/Election Committee and presented the results of the voting to the body during the 6th plenary session. In 2008, Dr. Gilliam was appointed to serve as the Mid-Atlantic Representative to the International Constitution Committee. At the 2010 Boule, she served on the Time and Place Committee.

Professionally, Dr. Gilliam is a retired educational administrator. For 35 years, her career spanned every level of education, including teacher, staff development instructor, high school assistant principal, middle and high school program administrator, elementary principal, Director of Disciplinary Review, and college instructor.

Currently Dr. Gilliam is an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond, where she teaches in the Teacher Licensure Program in the School of Continuing Studies. She is also a consultant with Virginia Commonwealth University as a trainer of public school administrators. She has also been a participant in and presenter for educational think tanks in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Oxford University in Oxford, England; and in Japan as a Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar.

Dr. Gilliam is a member of Second Baptist Church, where she has held a number of positions, including Trustee Ministry, Finance Ministry; Women's Ministry and Superintendent of Sunday School. She served as a mentor in Partnership for the Future, and as a grandparent volunteer in the Richmond Public and Chesterfield County Public Schools. She serves on the Board of Resource One in Richmond and on the Board of the Southside YMCA.

She is married, with two adult sons and five grandchildren.
